EV suspension is a technology that can improve the ride quality and efficiency of electric vehicles by using electric motors and generators to control the wheel movement and recover energy. On the other hand, traditional suspension systems use mechanical components such as springs, dampers, and anti-roll bars to support the wheels and absorb the shocks from the road surface.

There are some differences between EV suspension and traditional suspension systems, such as:

  • Space: EV suspension technology can take advantage of the extra space available in the engine compartment of electric vehicles, where the internal combustion engine used to be. This can allow for more optimal placement of the steering gear and suspension components, such as double wishbones, which can enhance the steering feel and handling performance of electric vehicles.
  • Complexity: EV suspension technology is more complex than traditional suspension, as it involves electric motors, generators, sensors, controllers, and wiring. These components can increase the weight, cost, and maintenance requirements of EV suspension. However, they can also eliminate some mechanical parts, such as gearbox, clutch, transmission shaft, and anti-roll bar, which can reduce the wear and tear of EV suspension.
  • Adjustability: EV suspension technology can adjust the stiffness and damping of each wheel independently, according to the road conditions and driving preferences. This can improve the ride comfort and adaptability of electric vehicles. Traditional suspension systems, on the other hand, are usually fixed or have limited adjustability.
  • Regeneration: EV suspension technology can recover some of the energy that is normally wasted as heat during braking and suspension movement. This can increase the efficiency and range of electric vehicles and reduce their environmental impact. Traditional suspension systems do not have this capability.

EV suspension technology and traditional suspension systems have some differences in terms of space, complexity, adjustability, and regeneration. EV suspension can offer some benefits to electric vehicles, such as improved ride comfort, handling performance, efficiency, and range. However, it also has some drawbacks, such as increased weight, cost, and maintenance. Therefore, choosing between EV suspension and traditional suspension systems depends on the preferences and needs of the drivers and passengers.
