With the increased attention paid to dry transfer decals today, it's informative to return to an application that helped make them famous: product prototypes. Industrial designers were early to realize the value of custom dry transfers for the lettering and details on their prototypes. The decals helped them achieve a "finished product look" that saved hours of handwork painting on the details – and greatly expanded what could be achieved. The best prototypes match the appearance of the final manufactured products. Given today's high standards for everything, it sets the bar relatively high.
