Mitsubishi has unveiled the sixth generation of its popular L200, also known as the Triton in some markets, a midsize pickup truck that combines agility, durability, and technology. The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 features a complete redesign, a new diesel engine, and a host of advanced technologies that make it a smart and stylish companion for everyday life.
The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 is based on a newly developed ladder frame chassis that increases torsional rigidity by 60 percent, improving durability and stability. The suspension system has also been revamped, with a double-wishbone front and a leaf spring rear setup. The truck also boasts a new four-wheel-drive system with a center-limited-slip differential and seven driving modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.
The exterior design of the new L200 is inspired by the concept of "Beast Mode," which expresses the toughness and powerfulness expected of a pickup truck. The front fascia features a larger grille with Mitsubishi's Dynamic Shield design, flanked by split headlights with three L-shaped LED lights. The rear end has T-shaped LED taillights and a rear spoiler integrated into the tailgate. The truck also has roof rails, a sports bar, and fender extensions for a more rugged look.
The interior of the new L200 is more refined and comfortable than before, with soft-padded materials on the touch points and metallic accents. The dashboard has a horizontal layout with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The instrument cluster has analog gauges and a 4.2-inch color display that shows various information. The center console has a rotary dial for selecting the four-wheel-drive modes and buttons for drive mode, hill descent assist, and climate control. The truck also has a wireless charging pad, USB ports, and multiple storage compartments.
The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that comes in three power outputs: 148 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque, 181 hp and 316 lb-ft of torque, and 201 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with either a six-speed automatic transmission or a shift-by-wire six-speed manual transmission. According to Mitsubishi, the new engine is cleaner and more efficient than the previous one, thanks to reduced friction loss and improved combustion.
The new Mitsubishi L200 also comes with a range of safety and driver assistance features, such as forward collision mitigation, blind spot warning, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, multi around view monitor, trailer stability assist, and parking sensors.
The new Mitsubishi L200 will go on sale in Thailand later this year, followed by other markets in Asia, Oceania, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. It will compete with other midsize pickup trucks such as the Ford Ranger, the Toyota Hilux, the Nissan Navara, and the Volkswagen Amarok. Mitsubishi has not announced the pricing for the new L200 yet, but it is expected to be slightly higher than the current model, which starts at $33,000 in Thailand.
The 2024 Mitsubishi L200 is part of Mitsubishi's product strategy for the next five years, which includes launching 16 new models by 2028. Among them are two electric vehicles: an EV pickup truck that will debut after 2025 and an EV crossover that will be based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMF-EV platform.
