The Role of ISO 16232 / VDA 19 Standards

To ensure consistency and quality in parts cleaning across the automotive industry, two crucial international standards have been established:

  • ISO 16232: This International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard outlines the requirements for applying and documenting methods used to determine particulate contamination on functional components and systems of road vehicles. It details the process for specifying cleanliness levels, creating test procedures, and reporting results.
  • VDA 19: Developed by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), this standard is more in-depth and specific than ISO 16232.
